Does ChatGPT recommend personal trainers?
When clients ask ChatGPT to recommend a personal trainer, it names specific businesses. We asked the questions clients really use, city by city, and recorded which personal trainers it names and where it gets its answers. Each city below has its own page with the full list, and the AI visibility directory covers every trade and city we scan.

Across 6 cities and 84 answers, the assistants named 298 different personal trainers, counted city by city, about 3.5 names per answer. That makes this a fragmented market: on average the most-named business appears in only 23% of a city's answers, so no single name dominates and the short list changes from question to question. The picture is remarkably even from city to city: every leader sat between 21% and 29% of answers. A fragmented market is the easiest to enter and the hardest to hold: with no fixed leader, whichever personal trainers are best represented on the sources below get named that week.
ChatGPT and Gemini agreed on at least one personal trainer in 3 of 6 cities and handed out entirely different names in the other 3. For personal trainers the assistants leaned first on booking platforms and marketplaces and then individual business websites, with findyourtrainer.com and thumbtack.com cited most. One business site, instituteofpersonaltrainers.com, was cited 8 times on its own, the kind of exception that happens when a chain has many locations or a page answers one question very well. Before spending anything else, a personal trainer who wants to be named should be complete and consistent on those two.
Personal training runs almost entirely on marketplaces. Platforms that match clients to trainers dominate the sources, and individual trainers' sites barely register, so the assistants are effectively re-ranking those platforms' listings. A trainer who is on the two leading marketplaces with a full profile, a specialism and recent reviews is competing; one who relies on Instagram and word of mouth is not in the room.

How personal trainers get recommended by AI
AI assistants recommend the personal trainers they can find and trust. For personal trainers that means being listed and well reviewed on findyourtrainer.com and thumbtack.com before anything else, and having pages that state plainly what you do and who you help. A personal trainer an assistant cannot find is one it cannot name (why your business might be invisible to AI); one it finds but ranks behind others is a different problem, covered in why AI recommends your competitors instead of you. For the owner's side of this trade, read AI search for personal trainers. Close trades have their own guides: AI search for gyms and fitness studios.
