About Peekl
Peekl (peekl.io) checks whether AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude recommend a local business when customers ask for one, who they name instead, and what to fix. It is run by Peekl, LLC, a limited liability company registered in the State of Delaware, United States. This page explains how we test, where every number on this site comes from, and how we correct mistakes.
Peekl at peekl.io is not related to Peekl at peekl.dev, an open-source configuration management tool.
What Peekl does
A free check puts twelve questions a customer of your trade would ask, worded for your town, to ChatGPT or Gemini, once. The one-time $99 audit puts fifteen questions to ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude, three times each, and turns the 135 answers into a ranked list of fixes. Optional monthly tracking at $39 repeats the audit. Details are on the pricing page and in how it works.
How we test AI answers
We send questions to each assistant through its maker's API (OpenAI, Google and Anthropic) with web search turned on, so the assistant looks businesses up before it answers, as it does in the app. API answers can differ from what you see typing into an app, because apps add your location, history and account settings. AI answers also change from one ask to the next, which is why we ask more than once and report how often a business is named rather than a single screenshot.
Our study and data pages say which assistant, which model and which date each number comes from. We sell AI visibility checks, so we have a stake in this subject: keep that in mind when you read our tool comparisons, which include our own product.
Where the numbers on this site come from
Different pages quote different sample sizes because they come from different tests. Each test is documented on the page linked below.
- Gemini local recommendations study, 15 October 2026. 8 customer questions for each of 9 trades in 9 cities, each asked 3 times, on Gemini 3.1 Flash-Lite with Google Search turned on: 1,926 answers and 14,688 cited sources. Published as a free CSV under CC BY 4.0. The study and its dataset.
- Website types behind those answers, October 2026. The 14,688 sources from the study, sorted by type of website (business sites, booking platforms, guides, directories, forums, official bodies). Which websites AI trusts.
- Google Maps comparison, 16 October 2026. 242 of the study's questions typed, word for word, into Google Maps, to compare its top 20 results with the businesses Gemini named. AI search vs Google.
- City scans, 3 and 10 September 2026. 6 customer questions for each of 7 trades in 9 cities, asked once on ChatGPT (GPT-4o) and once on Gemini: 756 answers. The trade and city pages combine these 6 ChatGPT answers with the first 8 Gemini answers from the October study, 14 answers per page. AI visibility by trade and city.
- Repeat test, 11 October 2026. Three local questions (a dentist in London, a plumber in Chicago, a hair salon in New York) asked 10 times each, word for word, to see how much an answer changes. How AI decides which businesses to recommend.
- Wrong-details test, 13 October 2026. 40 independent businesses asked about on ChatGPT and Gemini, with web search off and on, each answer checked against the business's Google listing. When AI gets your details wrong.
Some guides also show one full Peekl audit of an established London clinic, 135 answers across the three assistants. That is a single example of what an audit shows, not a study.
Corrections and updates
Facts about other companies, such as prices and features, are read on their own websites, and each page gives the date we read them. When a page changes in substance, its “Last reviewed” date changes too. If you spot a mistake, email hello@peekl.io and we will check it and correct the page.
Payments and refunds
The free check lets you see the method before you pay. We do not offer a general money-back guarantee. If our system fails to run or deliver your audit, email us and we will make it right, including a refund. The full wording is in our terms.
